Viviamo in un mondo costantemente in fiamme: al giorno d’oggi sempre più frequentemente assistiamo a fenomeni come incendi boschivi propagarsi in ogni angolo del pianeta.
I ragazzi della mia generazione e di quelle a venire avranno in eredità una Terra inquinata dallo sfruttamento intensivo dei nostri predecessori che, nonostante ora il problema sia palese e ai limiti dell irrisolvibile, continuano a trattarlo come avesse poca rilevanza.
Il progetto che intendo sviluppare riguarda proprio il rapporto tra la vecchia generazione, quella attuale e la Madre Terra. In un cortometraggio animato in stop motion, un vecchio e suo nipote campeggiano nel cuore di una foresta; accendono un falò e interagiscono con la natura che li circonda. La sera mangiano attorno al fuoco e vanno a dormire in tenda. Nel cuore della notte uno spirito soffierà sulle braci spente del falò, causando un incendio nella foresta. Lo spirito porterà poi con sé il bambino salvandolo dalle fiamme.
La figura dello spirito è fortemente ispirata a storie del folklore nipponico, in cui si credeva che gli eventi sfortunati fossero causati da spiriti malevoli, e al “kamikakushi” o anche sparizione per opera divina.
We live in a constantly burning world: nowadays we are assisting to an increase of phenomena such as forest fires spreading to every corner of the planet.
People of my generation and those to come will inherit an Earth polluted by the intensive exploitation of our predecessors who, despite now the problem is clear and at the limits of the unsolvable, keep treating it like it had no relevance.
The project that I intend to develop concerns the relationship between the old generation, the current one and Mother Earth. In this animated stop motion short film, an old man and his grandson camp in the heart of a forest; they light a bonfire and interact with the nature that surrounds them. In the evening they eat by the fire and go to sleep in a tent. In the middle of the night a spirit will blow on the extinguished embers of the bonfire, causing a wildfire in the forest. The spirit will then bring the child away with it, saving him from the flames.
The character of the spirit is strongly inspired by stories of Japanese folklore, in which it was believed that the unfortunate events were caused by malevolent spirits, and the “kamikakushi” or, translated, disappearance by gods’work.
