“ICON” è un cortometraggio che ho creato con lo scopo di mostrare quanto diverse siano le idee che si hanno circa l’aspetto del divino. Dunque in ICON avviene una ricerca sulla Divina Estetica; nel video ho voluto mostrare che non esiste un’unica immagine che riassuma visivamente il divino, ognuno lo vede in modo soggettivo.
Sono partita da un’indagine: ho intervistato alcune persone diverse in età, cultura e religione, chiedendogli di descrivere quello che secondo loro era l’aspetto del divino con assoluta libertà, senza legarsi a vincoli religiosi, di sesso o storici. In seguito ho interpretato ogni risposta realizzando per ciascuna un’illustrazione minimale con il solo uso del bianco e nero. Nel video, mettendo le illustrazioni sulle varie facce di un cubo e mostrandole in sequenza, ho posto tutte le diverse interpretazioni del divino sullo stesso livello: nessuna di esse è più autentica della precedente né della successiva, ognuna è un’Icona. Mentre il cubo gira ho integrato l’audio delle interviste di alcune persone. Ogni Icona è solo una sfaccettatura della Divina Estetica, ogni Icona è solo un lato di un cubo dalle facce infinite, che non smette mai di girare.
ICON is a short film that I created with the purpose of showing how different are the ideas people have about the appearance of the divine. In ICON I have made a study about the Divine Aesthetic; in this video I wanted to show that it doesn’t exist a single image that can visually define the divine, since everyone sees it subjectively. I started with a survey: I interviewed people of different ages, cultures and religions, asking them to describe the divine appearance with absolute freedom and without any religious, sexual or historical tie. Later I interpreted the answers by doing for each one a minimal illustration in which I only used black and white. In the video I showed the illustrations in sequence by putting them on the faces of a cube, all the different people’s interpretations of the divine are on the same level: none of them is more authentic than the other, each of them is an Icon. While the cube keeps on turning, I added the audio of some interviews. Each Icon is just a facet of the Divine Aesthetic, each Icon is just a side of a cube with infinite faces, a cube that never stops.
