#12 LIBERAZIONI

FILIPPO GUALAZZI

We live in an era in which humanity is deprived of its essence, exploited to define people through labels: sex, skin color, religion and different beliefs are no longer reasons for cultural variety and pride but instead they are becoming increasingly significant and delimiting differences. The advent of the web has become an extension of our senses and our spoken word, and if used to express prejudice it emphasizes social differences. This is the theme around which we developed the interactive installation "LiberAzioni". We have extrapolated different discriminating words from the web, that come to life with the presence of the user, modeling his image on the screen: the user decides whether to remain passive or act and change the situation. In fact, his actions distance the words from his figure, giving space to an explosion of colors, where the negative words are transformed into positive, thus freeing themselves from prejudices and canceling out any social difference. The algorithm of the system has been programmed to choose only one person randomly from the spectating crowd, the remaining become silhouettes that surround the selected candidate, thus becoming passive spectators but co-authors of this event.
